15 March 2010 : The First European Halal Certificate

The First European Halal Certificate was issued

The First European Halal Certificate was issued by The Brussels Chamber of Commerce (BECI) in order to facilitate exports.

The first certified product is ‘Night Orient, a festive drink made from white grapes without alcohol, whose marketing is clearly directed at Muslims.

A procedure for obtaining a halal certificate begins with an application submission.  Following, an internal audit, an imam comes to the production site and decides if the product merits such a label.  If it does, it facilitates exports, particularly to Organization of The Islamic Conference countries, Olivier Willocx of BECI told La Capitale.

The issuance of Halal products for a big city such as Brussels that 17% of the residents eat halal will promote the increasing of Europe’s halal market, since Halal products are used for various food types, prepared for restaurants, supermarkets and other food manufacturers.
